Instagram and TikTok engagement rate calculator
Engagement rate shows how many people interact with your posts compared with your audience or your views. Enter the totals for one post or for your last few posts and the calculator gives you the rate by followers and, if you add views, the rate by views. Everything is calculated in your browser: nothing you type is sent or stored.
What engagement rate measures
Follower counts tell you how big an audience is; engagement rate tells you how much of it actually reacts. Two accounts with the same number of followers can have very different rates, and the one with more likes, comments, shares and saves per post usually has the more active audience.
There are two common ways to calculate it. The rate by followers compares interactions with the size of your audience and is the figure most brands ask for. The rate by views compares interactions with the people who actually saw the post, which is more useful on TikTok and for Reels, where many viewers do not follow you.
The formulas this calculator uses
Interactions are the sum of the likes, comments, shares and saves you enter (leave a field empty if you do not have it).
- Engagement rate by followers = interactions ÷ number of posts ÷ followers × 100
- Engagement rate by views = interactions ÷ views × 100
- Average interactions per post = interactions ÷ number of posts
How to read your result
There is no single “good” engagement rate that applies to every account. Rates vary by platform, niche, content format and account size, and larger accounts usually have lower rates than small ones. The most useful comparison is with yourself: calculate the rate for your last 10 to 20 posts, then repeat the calculation every month and look at the trend.
Comparing with a few similar accounts in your niche also helps, as long as you use the same formula for all of them. A follower count that is high compared with very few interactions can be a sign of inactive or fake followers; our guide on how to spot fake followers explains what else to check.
To raise your rate, focus on content people want to save and share, answer comments quickly and post when your audience is online. Our guide to Instagram engagement rate covers this in more detail.
How to calculate your engagement rate
- Choose the platform. Select Instagram or TikTok. The formulas are the same; the choice only changes the labels you see.
- Enter your followers. Type the follower count shown on your profile today.
- Add the interactions. Add up the likes, comments, shares and saves for the posts you want to measure, and enter how many posts that is. Add views if you want the rate by views.
- Read and track the result. Note the rate by followers and by views, then repeat the calculation every month with the same number of posts to follow the trend.
Frequently asked questions
Is this engagement rate calculator free?
Yes. It is free, needs no sign-up and runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent to us or stored.
Should I use the rate by followers or by views?
Use the rate by followers when you compare accounts or report to brands, and the rate by views to judge how well a single video or Reel performed with the people who actually saw it. Many creators track both.
How many posts should I include?
One post shows how that post performed. For a reliable picture of the account, add up the interactions of your last 10 to 20 posts and enter that number of posts.
What is a good engagement rate?
It depends on the platform, the niche and the size of the account, so there is no universal number. Compare your rate with your own past months and with similar accounts calculated the same way.
