What a Steam gift card is

Steam gift cards and digital wallet codes add funds to your Steam Wallet, the balance inside your Steam account. Wallet funds can buy games, downloadable content, in-game items in games that use Steam payments, and items on the Steam Community Market. Steam is operated by Valve; funds in the wallet cannot be withdrawn as cash.

Wallet currency and region

Every Steam Wallet has a currency set by the country of the account (for example USD, EUR or a local currency in some markets). Valve’s help pages explain that wallet codes in a different currency may be converted to your wallet currency at Valve’s rate, but some cards or regions can have restrictions, and prices of games are set per region. Rather than guess, check your wallet currency in the top-right corner of the Steam client next to your balance and send it to support before ordering; we will confirm which code fits.

Do not use VPNs or region tricks to buy cheaper games: Valve’s rules forbid misrepresenting your location, and it can lead to purchase restrictions.

What wallet funds can and cannot do

Wallet funds can buy games and DLC in the Steam store, items in the Steam Community Market and in-game purchases in games that use Steam’s checkout. They can also be used to buy a game as a gift for a friend. They cannot be transferred to another account, withdrawn to a bank or used outside Steam. If you plan to spend in a game that sells currency through its own website instead of Steam, check first that it accepts Steam Wallet at all.

How to redeem

  1. Sign in to Steam and open Account details → Add funds → Redeem a Steam Gift Card or Wallet Code, or go to store.steampowered.com/account/redeemwalletcode.
  2. Enter the code and continue.
  3. The funds appear in your Steam Wallet balance.

Delivery and availability

Codes are delivered digitally by message or email after payment, on request. Values and availability depend on the currency, so support confirms the exact code and price before you pay. The delivery time on this page is set by our team.

Safety tips

  • Turn on Steam Guard for your account.
  • Ignore messages from "friends" asking you to vote, verify an item or claim a prize on an outside site — they are a common phishing route on Steam.
  • Valve staff will never ask for your password or for gift cards.

Can I use a USD Steam card if my wallet is in another currency?

Valve may convert wallet codes to your wallet currency, but some cards and regions have restrictions. Confirm with support before ordering.

Can I buy CS2 or Dota 2 items with wallet funds?

Yes. Wallet funds work in the Steam store and the Steam Community Market, including items for Valve’s games.

Can Steam Wallet funds be withdrawn?

No. Steam Wallet funds stay in your Steam account and are not cash.

Is it safe to buy cheaper keys from other regions with a VPN?

No. Steam’s rules forbid misrepresenting your location, and it can lead to restrictions on your account.
